How to Delight in God

While I was reading the Scriptures this morning, I was struck with the design of God's word.  Two psalms (I'm sure there's more) that I came across-111 & 112-are both acrostic psalms.  That is to say that each line begins with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.  Why?...Why would God inspire that?
I think one reason is it makes it easier to memorize the Scriptures.  My wife and I have the ABC's of Scriptural memorization for our kids.  The "A" verse is "All have sinned...", the "B" verse is "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ...", and so on.  This makes it easier to memorize and (more importantly later) to meditate on the word of God.

It is this memorization and meditation that God has designed for the result of delighting in Him!  When our mind is being washed by the water of His word, only delight in Him and His promises can result!  This is what brings honor to God!  This is the fuel that stokes the fire within our bones so that we can't hold it in anymore and we spontaneously combust in praising our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ.  It is the word that the Holy Spirit uses to make us glory in Him.

Sadly it is the thing is the is most overlooked and the biggest struggle for a lot of Christians.  Brother, sister, listen;  we must stay connected to the vine in order to get the nourishment we need to continue to grow.  When we are not reading our Bibles (i.e. NOT LISTENING TO GOD'S VOICE) we are first of all not being obedient, but secondly settling for counterfeit joy in our life.  There is no joy or life or delight, or treasure outside of Christ.  Which means there is no peace, no pleasure and no passion outside of staying in God's word.  Take the first step, it's never too late to do the right thing.  Read.  If you don't know where to start, pick up the Psalms.  Read one line at a time and turn it into a prayer.  When it says "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart", plead with God "Lord, I'm not delighting in you right now, please help me to do that!  I'm convinced intellectually that you are God, but not emotionally.  CHANGE MY HEART"  Do that and then have the attitude of Jacob where you will not let go of God until He blesses you!

Read, enjoy, delight, and contend for His fame.
